April 2007
"He is truly wise who has traveled far and knows the ways of the world. He who has traveled can tell what spirit governs the men he meets."
- Old Viking Hávamál proverb
This is probably the most exciting time of the year for travel in Southern Africa. Most people think that Peak Season (December / January) is the only time to travel to our country, have we got news for you :-)
During the winter months we enjoy not only the annual visit from the breeding Southern Right Whale, but winter's short grass also tends to improve general game viewing, and then there's also spectacular "green season" specials coming through from suppliers. Another point to keep in mind is that South Africa enjoys an average of eight hours sunshine a day - so even in our winter months we have some really lovely days.
Some of the specials include the spectacular renamed Arabella Western Cape Hotel, the beautiful White Elephant Safari Lodge and some great rates for the Lagoon Bungalows (with plunge pool) at Huvafenfushi Spa Resort in the Maldives.... To mention only a few!

Prince Albert Town Festival : 28-30 April
The annual Olive Food and Wine Festival attracts visitors from far and wide.
There are numerous stalls offering local produce, handicrafts and clothing.
There are guided "tours" of every sort: trips into the Swartberg Pass, visits to bushman sites, a historical wander through the streets and even a Ghost Walk!
The resident story-teller reveals the myths and memories of Prince Albert and the district and an astronomer explains the mysteries of the night skies.

Addo Elephant Marathon: 28-29 April
Extreme marathon running is becoming quite popular, after all who wouldn't want to run alongside (or away from) lions and elephants on a sunny day in April?
This is the third Addo Elephant marathon, which is held in a beautiful national wildlife park near Port Elizabeth in South Africa.
There are two runs, a 50 mile and a 100 mile run, both require extreme fitness since most of the running takes place on dirt trails through the African bush.
